Local Governments Express Support for Broadband Provisions of Economic Stimulus Plan
In a letter to
Congressional Leadership, NATOA has indicated its appreciation and support
for the broadband provisions of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of
2009. The letter, addressed to
Senators Reid and McConnell, Speaker Pelosi and Representative Boehner,
restates NATOA’s ongoing commitment to the successful deployment of broadband
infrastructure and services throughout the nation. “NATOA is pleased that, in drafting the
economic recovery package, Congress has recognized broadband’s important role
in helping to turn the economy around, and has ensured that local governments
will have a substantial part to play in bringing broadband’s transformative
power to communities nationwide,” stated Libby Beaty, NATOA’s Executive
Director.
NATOA
has identified broadband projects by local governments across the nation that stand ready to
initiate broadband projects with immediate and sustained benefit to their
citizens and the economic revitalization of their communities. It is this dedication and level of commitment
to our nation’s future that we believe will help us all achieve the shared
vision of broadband deployment and services nationwide.
