NATOA Files Comments on Connect America Fund

Yesterday, NATOA, joined
by the New America Foundation, filed comments with the FCC on the establishment
of the “Connect America Fund” that was proposed in the National Broadband
Plan. Our comments urge the Commission to seek out a permanent federal
broadband funding mechanism similar to the BTOP and BIP programs currently
underway at NTIA and RUS respectively. We restated our underlying policy
that the federal government should seek to maximize its encouragement of
broadband deployment regardless of whether it is a private entity, local
government, or non-profit entity that is best positioned to promote that deployment.
