NATOA Celebrates 2010 Government Programming Award Winners

Alexandria, VA - (October 5, 2010) – The National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA) honored the winners of the 25th Annual Government Programming Awards (GPA) during a gala event last week at The Washington Court Hotel in Washington, DC.  The awards program honors excellence in broadcast, cable, multimedia and electronic programming produced by local government agencies.  This year, NATOA received more than 730 entries submitted by local governments in 26 states across the country and Canada.   “Our GPA winners continue to demonstrate excellence in local government programming and we are thrilled to honor and celebrate their achievements,” commented NATOA President Ken Fellman.  “We congratulate these winners for actively supporting government access programming’s role in building stronger, more connected communities.”  

Entries in the 70 categories cover a variety of programming including, among others, community events, documentary, public affairs and public service, interview/talk show, performing arts, sports, election coverage and children’ s issues.  Among the awards with special significance are the “Excellence in Government Programming” awards which are judged on the agency’s variety of programming quality throughout the year.  This year’s Excellence awards were presented to the following four outstanding NATOA communities, each taking first place in their respective budget categories: “Village of Oak Park TV” Village of Oak Park, IL, “Richland CityView” City of Richland, WA, “CTN Studios Original Programming” City of Coon Rapids, MN, and “Excellence in Government Programming” City of Seattle, WA.  The “Montgomery County Public Schools Instructional TV” Montgomery County Public Schools, MD received the Excellence in Educational Institution/District Programming.
