NATOA NEWS: NATOA Announces Support of CAP Act

May 5, 2011 4:26 PM
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — Alexandria, VA - (May 5, 2011) – NATOA is pleased to announce its support of the 2011 Community Access Preservation (“CAP”) Act (H.R. 1746) which was introduced today by Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and Congressman Steven LaTourette (R-OH). The bill will, among other things, remove the distinction between “capital” and “operating” uses of PEG support fees; ensure funding for PEG channels; require cable operators to transmit PEG channels without charge to the local government; and require the FCC to undertake a study of PEG operations.

“We sincerely thank Representatives Baldwin and LaTourette for working together in a bipartisan effort to get this bill drafted and introduced,” said NATOA President Ken Fellman. “The bill goes a long way in helping to ensure the continued vitality of public, educational, and governmental programming in communities across our country. NATOA is committed to working with our national local government partners in getting this legislation enacted.”

NATOA is also grateful for the hard work and dedication of Amber Shipley in Congresswoman Baldwin’s office and Dan Cano in Congressman LaTourette’s office for moving this bill forward.
