NATOA Celebrates 2012 Government Programming Award Winners

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (September 29, 2012) – The National Association of
Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA) honored the winners of the
27th Annual Government Programming Awards (GPA) tonight at The Sheraton New
Orleans Hotel in New Orleans, LA. The awards program honors excellence in
broadcast, cable, multimedia and electronic programming produced by local
government agencies. This year, NATOA received more than 650 entries
submitted by local governments across the country and Canada.
“Our GPA winners continue to demonstrate excellence in programming and we are
thrilled to honor and celebrate their achievements,” commented NATOA President
Joanne Hovis. “We congratulate these winners for actively supporting community
programming’s role in building stronger, more connected communities.”
Entries in the 66 categories cover a variety of programming including, among
others, community events, documentary, public affairs and public service,
interview/talk show, performing arts, sports, election coverage and children’ s
issues. Among the awards with special significance are the “Excellence in
Programming” awards which are judged on the agency’s variety of programming
quality throughout the year. This year’s Excellence awards were presented
to the following outstanding NATOA communities:
- “LMCC: Excellence in Public Access Programming” Lake Minnetonka Communications Commission, MN – Excellence in Public Access Programming
- “MCPS TV” Montgomery County Public Schools, MD – Excellence in Educational Institution/District Programming
- “CTV - The Calabasas Channel” City of Calabasas, CA – Excellence in Government Programming Operating Budget to $200,000
- “Government Television Network - RWSCC” Ramsey/Washington Suburban Cable Commission, MN – Excellence in Government Programming Operating Budget $200,000 - $400,000
- “Austin Programming Highlights” City of Austin, TX – Excellence in Government Programming Operating Budget $400,000 - $1,000,000
- “The Seattle Channel” The Seattle Channel, WA – Excellence in Government Programming Operating Budget over $1,000,000
