Comments in Response to FCC’s FNPRM in Broadband Data Collection Docket 07-38

Today NATOA filed Comments in response to the FCC’s Further Notice on Broadband Data Collection in Docket 07-38.  NATOA supports the development of a national broadband strategy and has, with its comments, released its own Broadband Principles in support of such a national approach.  In response to the FCC’s inquiry, NATOA encourages the FCC to develop a publicly available mapping system granular to the census bureau tract level; to reject calls for confidentiality of information that is currently publicly available to a potential subscriber including availability of service offerings, speeds and price; to collect this information and to make it available both in mapping and also as raw data.  As stated in its comments NATOA believes that “Accurate broadband data is fundamental to the creation and implementation of a national broadband strategy.  The collection and public availability of such data by the Commission, both in an interactive map and in raw form, will provide an invaluable resource to local, state and federal policymakers, in addition to private business, public interest organizations, and American broadband consumers.”
