NATOA Files Comments on Two Public Notices Related to the National Broadband Plan
Today NATOA filed comments
in response to two requests by the FCC as part of its development of the
National Broadband Plan. The comments focused on the development of a
national Broadband Clearinghouse of best practices and a study by HarvardUniversity’s
BerkmanCenter on broadband transitions and
policies around the world.
On the issue of the
development of a Broadband Clearinghouse, NATOA stated its support for the
development of an open-source, publically available website. NATOA
recommended that the FCC should develop and manage a website modeled after a
prototype created by the City and County
of San Francisco, California.

On the BerkmanCenter
study, NATOA stated its support for the study’s conclusion that open access
networks are beneficial to broadband deployment. NATOA cited to its
Broadband Principles, adopted by the Board of Directors in 2008, which list
open access networks as a requirement for high capacity broadband deployment.
The comments also reminded the FCC of statements NATOA made in support of open
access networks in a filing this past summer on the National Broadband
Plan. The full text of NATOA’s comments on NBP Public Notice # 13 is
