NATOA Celebrates 2013 Government Programming Award Winners

– The National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA) honored the winners of the 28th Annual Government Programming Awards (GPA) tonight at the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel in Orlando, FL. The awards program honors excellence in broadcast, cable, multimedia and electronic programming produced by local government agencies. This year, NATOA received more than 670 entries submitted by local governments across the country and Canada. “Our GPA winners continue to demonstrate excellence in programming and we are thrilled to honor and celebrate their achievements,” commented NATOA President Tony Perez. “We congratulate these winners for actively supporting community programming’s role in building stronger, more connected communities.”

Entries in the 67 categories cover a variety of programming including, among others, community events, documentary, public affairs and public service, interview/talk show, performing arts, sports, election coverage and children’ s issues. Among the awards with special significance are the “Excellence in Programming” awards which are judged on the agency’s variety of programming quality throughout the year. This year’s Excellence awards were presented to the following outstanding NATOA communities: 

  • “Village of Oak Park TV” Village of Oak Park, IL – Programming Excellence (Operating Budget Under $200,000)
  • “Allen City Television (ACTV)” City of Allen, TX — Programming Excellence (Operating Budget $200,000 - $400,000)
  • “ATXN Programming Highlights” City of Austin, Texas, TX — Programming Excellence (Operating Budget $400,000 - $1,000,000)
  • “County of San Diego — County News Center TV” County of San Diego, CA — Programming Excellence (Operating Budget Over $1,000,000)
