Information Technology Director – City of Lawton, OK

The City of Lawton is the sixth largest community in the state and serves as the seat of Comanche County in southwest Oklahoma. The almost 90,400 residents enjoy its natural beauty and many cultural opportunities. Here, residents can hike, rock climb, and hunt. They can get out on the water for a day of boating and fishing in Lake Lawtonka or Lake Ellsworth. Families can enjoy the Elmer Thomas Lake Recreational Area that includes swimming, biking, minigolfing, bird watching, canoeing, volleyball playing, kayaking, paddle boarding, and even scuba diving. LETRA, as it’s more casually known, is also available for camping year-round. Visitors can pick between RV sites, tent camping, primitive camping, and modern cabins.

The Director of Information Technology’s primary responsibility is to oversee the streamlined operation of the IT department and to ensure it aligns with the business objectives of the organization. This individual’s principal goals are to develop and manage applications for each department and to attain all IT service-level agreements for the user community within the organization. The ideal candidate will be a successful project manager, someone who can effectively prioritize and delegate tasks in a high-pressure environment and adapt as needed. They will also understand how to plan for the future, developing strategic plans to address rapidly changing technology in the public sector and meet citizen expectations. To that end, the new director will need experience in assessing IT issues and products, developing policies, and working in partnership with employees throughout the organization to ensure their ideas best meet the needs of the organization.

A Bachelor’s Degree is required in the field of Computer Science or Information Systems with at least ten years of progressively responsible experience. A Master’s Degree in either is a plus. Certifications in ITIL, PMP, CSIM or CISSP are preferred. Experience is desirable in oversight of GIS, cybersecurity, emergency management and in the implementation of Tyler Technologies software.

The City of Lawton is offering a starting salary range of $81,120 to $138,320 for this position dependent on qualifications and experience.
