Professional Bio

Lya Yllades began her public service journey in 2012 for the City of Mission, Texas; a city she loves and calls home. In 2014, she entered the world of broadcasting, joining Telemundo as an audio technician for the morning show Acceso Total. Within a year, she had mastered roles from audio and stage management to on-camera hosting.

Her passion for storytelling took her to Houston for commercial media work, and later back to the Rio Grande Valley in 2019, where she became a bilingual reporter for Channel 5 News and Azteca. Reporting in both English and Spanish, Lya developed a deep appreciation for the role of local government and the critical need for clear, timely communication with residents.

In 2021, she joined the City of McAllen’s communications team, where she helped shape municipal messaging and public outreach. By 2023, she became Director of Communications and Events for the City of Alamo, Texas, where she oversees all city communications and organizes large-scale public events. With a decade of combined experience in media and public service and over five years in government communications, Lya brings unmatched passion, creativity, heart, and strategy to every project she touches.
