Video Engineer, North Metro TV, Blaine, MN

North Metro TV is seeking an experienced Video Engineer to join our community television station. This role is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing the technical systems that support live and recorded television programs for both the station and its seven member cities. The ideal candidate has extensive experience with cable television infrastructure, a strong understanding of IP-based media workflows, and the ability to respond quickly in a fast-paced, production environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform and/or coordinate preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of television and computer equipment and system problems for NMTV and Member Cities.
• Research equipment/software and analyze trends in technologies related to video production and distribution.
• Work with all NMTV departments to coordinate equipment replacement schedules and create equipment upgrade plans for annual budgets.
• Perform Master Control functions.
• Advise Member Cities and work with vendors on City system upgrades.
• Respond to Member City requests for equipment repair and training.
• Offer on-call support during live community events and City Meeting Recordings.
• Maintain equipment inventory database.
• Maintain wiring schematics for NMTV and Member City production systems.
• Installation, wiring and testing of new equipment.
• Provide technical assistance to others including co-workers, City staff and public.
• Maintain and develop skills through continuing education.
• Perform station IT services and computer maintenance.
• Oversee general building maintenance.
• Other duties as assigned.

Schedule and work environment

This position offers a flexible work schedule built around technical needs, productions meetings, live events, and vendor meetings. While much of the work takes place during regular weekday business hours, candidates should expect occasional evening troubleshooting and early morning meetings with outside vendors for building maintenance.

• You are an experienced engineer with a wealth of technical knowledge regarding community television cablecasting equipment, cameras, microphones, video switchers, streaming technology, and other equipment typical to a master control system.
• You are unafraid to ask questions and are used to working with less technically skilled staff in a courteous and professional manner.  You are good at explaining technical concepts and systems.
• You are adaptable, curious, resourceful, and excellent at troubleshooting.
• You are dedicated to serving the community.

Qualifications
Required:

• Degree in Video Production, Engineering, Computer Science or related field; or combination of training and experience that is substantially equivalent.
• Experience in maintaining and testing video equipment, computers, and network/systems.
• Five years' experience in a professional video production or IT environment.
• Extensive knowledge of television equipment including operation, installation, functioning within systems and troubleshooting of problems.
• Skill in operating computer hardware and software, and knowledge of computer networks.
• Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects.
• Commitment to continuing technology education.
• Ability to communicate confidently and effectively (oral and written).
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, Member City staff and elected officials, vendors, the public, and community organizations. 

Preferred:

• Expertise with IP based equipment.
• Experience with Tightrope Media Systems software and hardware.
• Experience with Ross systems, including Carbonite, Quorum, and LCS.
• Familiarity with Tricaster.
• Experience with IT support for office computers.

Additional requirements:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, including the ability to communicate effectively with public officials, community partners, and residents.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to lift, carry, and transport production equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
• Ability to work in a variety of environments, including indoor and outdoor locations and occasional adverse weather conditions.
• Ability to set up and operate cameras, tripods, lighting, audio, and other production equipment.
• Ability to work independently, solve problems effectively, and adapt to changing production needs.

Compensation
The 2026 salary range for this full-time position is $69,761 to $87,199, depending on qualifications and experience.
